Visit to Sengaku-ji and Tokuganji

Visiting the Ako Gishi Graves with Kenji-san, where the 47 Ronin are buried.

After visiting the graves of the Asano samurai, Kenji-san and his family took me to Tokuganji  temple where the famlous samurai Miyamoto Musashi had passed through during his travels.

Musashi had left a number of his paintings in this temple, however they were not on display at this time.  Still, the temple was a beautiful place to visit and even in the hot Japanese summer, I was still able to enjoy being there.

Visiting Genshinkan

I had the chance to visit 厳心館 (Genshinkan) in Kisarazu, Chiba, Japan.

This is the personal dojo of Kobara Kenichi sensei, current chairman of the World MJER Iaido Federation.

Since I was visiting Japan, he generously offered to take time out of his busy schedule and spend a few hours with me in his dojo.  He gave me a lpt of information and I hope that I am able to retain it all.

What an amazing experience.

Taking a selfie with the chairman of the Seito Seiryu Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido Kokusai Renmei (World MJER Federation) felt like an odd thing to do, yet here I am.

Kobara sensei and his wife took me out for dinner after renshu and it was some of the most amazing sushi I have ever had. It was my first experience with お任せ (Omakase - chef's choice), with some input from Koabara sensei. Sensei, ごちそうさまでした! 美味しかった!

Denoon sensei (not pictured) joined us as well, and it was a lot of fun enjoying good food and fun conversation outside the dojo setting, discussing things not normally talked about in the dojo.

Genshinkan was preparing for a half hour NHK documentary about Genshinkan the next day, and I blabbed on about my experiences with the Shogun experience.

Perfect bookend for an incredible day.

Kobara Sensei, 本当に、どうもありがとうございました.  Thank you very much for teaching me.
