Today, Sensei brought a really neat tool he bought from Japan. It's a specialized rasp designed to reach deep into the saya's (sheath) inner surface and file down any protrusions that are obstructing the blade.
Sandpaper on a stick would not be a good idea, as it could leave grains of sand embedded in the saya's inner surface that could scratch the blade.
Of course, he couldn't help himself not to hold it like a naginata 😂😂😂
