Obon Festival 2025 hosted by the Steveston Buddhist Temple

 Members of the Vancouver Eishin Ryu Iaido Club will perform a short demonstration of Muso Jikiden Eishin Ryu Iaido at this year's Obon Festival on Saturday, July 19th.


Date:  Saturday, July 19th, Gates open 5:00pm

Time Slot:  6:15pm – 6:30pm

Obon Odori starts at 6:30pm

Location:  Demo Area, Steveston Buddhist Temple

Battō Hō (大日本抜刀法) - [PERFORMERS – Jonathan and Victa]

            順刀其の一 Juntō Sono Ichi

            追撃刀 Tsuigekitō

            斜刀 Shatō

            四方刀其の一 Shihōtō Sono Ichi

            斬突刀 Zantotsutō

 

Okuiai Tachiwaza no Bu (奥居合立業之部) - [PERFORMERS – Peter and Vincent]

            惣捲 Sō Makuri

            行違 Yukichigai

            門入 Mon'iri

            袖摺返 Sode Surigaeshi

 

Tōhō (刀法) - [PERFORMERS – Peter and Vincent]

            Shihō-giri from Suiō-ryū

 

Attire

            Godan and above will wear kimono tops - Other ranks have the option to wear kimono tops, otherwise white tops with club patch, if you do not have a white top with club patch, other color top is acceptable as long as it is black, blue, brown (dark subdued colors, nothing flashy)

            Tabi – you can wear tabi if you like - Actual tabi, not tabi socks or tabi covers.  Earth colors (black, blue, brown, patterned, NOT white).

            Zori – As we are performing on a concrete surface, bare feet is optional, but if you can perform with zori, it might be safer

 

Equipment

            Banners x 1 – Will require two members to assist in carrying and setting these up.

            Bring your own bokuto for Tachiuchi performers

            Some business cards are available thanks to Victa.

 

Notes from Previous Demonstration

            Demo Area: outdoor stage.

            Change rooms were in the building behind some of the food stalls.

            Parking: Extremely limited, arrange transport on your own (Uber, public transit, carpool), but there is street parking and parking near McMath School

            Demo area should have been scanned for debris/hazmat, however recommend dojo members do an extended line sweep just before their demo.
